Oncology Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

Sometimes patients and doctors are faced with a situation when the tumour or its metastases in the liver, kidneys, lungs or bones have been diagnosed, but the surgical resection or this oncological formation is not possible. The development of the tumour is limited by chemotherapy or radiation, the effectiveness in these case may not produce the desired result.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is an efficient and considerate method of treatment of different tumour types in liver, bones, kidneys, lungs. Healthy tissue around the tumour remain intact during the procedure, while the cancer cells are being destroyed.

What is the essence and what happens during the procedure? Oncology Radiofrequency Ablation

During the procedure, the doctor enters the tumour mass through the skin with a thin needle. The insertion process of the correct radiofrequency needle into the tumour is controlled by the ultrasound or computed tomography apparatus, which is used also for visual diagnostics and evaluating the therapy. Before the Radiofrequency Ablation procedure the patient undergoes anesthesia. A month after the procedure, dead tumour cells turn into scar tissue.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive surgery with minimal interference and speedy recovery. In our clinic “DiaMed” it is performed in a modern operating room, which is equipped with medical equipment and technological equipment corresponding to modern requirements. Radiofrequency ablation method has been successfully used in the world for 20 years already.

What should I do to receive the most suitable treatment?

The method of the treatment, its necessity and potential effectiveness is evaluated by the treating doctor. Compliance of the patient with Radiofrequency Ablation is mainly determined by two main factors – size of the tumour and its localization. The doctor will inform the patient how to prepare for the operation.

Take any health related information and paperwork to the consultation – any previous examination and test results, medical institution extracts, consultant conclusions etc.

Radiofrequency Ablation lasts about 30-50 minutes and after the manipulation at least 2-3 hour bed rest is necessary. Usually, the patient can go home on the same day.

If you are interested in the possibility of having this manipulation, make an appointment with the doctor by calling +371 67471788 or mobile no. +371 27873073, +371 29210586 weekdays from 8am to 8pm Oncology Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
